Books, libraries, and architecture stand at the heart of Franck Bohbot’s project, which began in Paris as he immersed himself in each space and the city around it. He approaches these institutions with a monumental, cinematic sensibility, using only natural light and film-like color palettes. Drawn to their quiet, cathedral-like atmosphere, he celebrates their enduring design as well as the passion of the librarians who sustain them. The series, which started in Paris and continued through Rome, Vienna, Venice, and Providence, will expand to libraries around the world, from ancient to contemporary. Avoiding the coldness of strict architectural photography, Bohbot infuses each image with character and a subtle melancholy, reflecting the uncertain future of these timeless sanctuaries of knowledge.
