An iconic photographic exploration of New York City’s basketball courts, This Game We Play captures the soul of the city through the quiet yet electric spaces where its stories unfold. Over the course of the project, the photographer set out to document 100 courts, mostly empty, sometimes nearly so—using a medium format camera, allowing each frame to reveal the monumental presence of these urban arenas. With a meticulous eye for light, texture, and geometry, every shot transforms familiar, everyday courts into cinematic compositions where the spirit of the game and the heartbeat of NYC come alive. This series elevates the overlooked, turning public spaces into monuments and everyday basketball courts into enduring symbols of culture, community, and resilience.
